Abstract

Abstract – The cause of non-adherence among diabetes mellitus patients in undergoing therapy is a lack of understanding regarding the benefits of diet. Patients who adhere to dietary recommendations have better blood glucose control, thereby reducing the risk of long-term complications. This study aims to determine the effect of adherence support in treatment programs on dietary compliance and blood glucose control in diabetes mellitus patients at UPTD Puskesmas Pacet, Mojokerto Regency. The research design used was pre-experimental with a one group pre-test and post-test design, employing purposive sampling with a total of 30 respondents. The instruments used were a dietary compliance questionnaire, blood glucose control compliance questionnaire, and a standard operating procedure (SOP) of adherence support in treatment programs based on the Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results showed that the level of dietary compliance before receiving adherence support in the treatment program was mostly in the non-compliant category, whereas after receiving adherence support it was mostly in the compliant category. Similarly, the level of blood glucose control compliance before receiving adherence support was largely in the less compliant category, while after receiving adherence support it shifted to mostly in the compliant category. Based on the Wilcoxon statistical test (ρ value = 0.000 < α = 0.05), H0 was rejected, indicating that treatment adherence support significantly influenced both dietary adherence and blood glucose control among diabetes mellitus patients at UPTD Puskesmas Pacet, Mojokerto Regency. Treatment adherence support is highly necessary to improve compliance, particularly through effective communication techniques by healthcare workers, who play a crucial role in providing patients with relevant health information and guidance to support recovery. This is because treatment adherence support enhances patients’ understanding of the importance of treatment during education sessions. Keywords: treatment adherence support, dietary adherence, blood glucose control adherence, diabetes mellitus patients.
