Abstract

ABSTRACT The elderly often experience various changes, including physiological, physical, bilological and social changes. These changes will affect aspects of the elderly's life, including health. Gout is caused by excessive uric acid levels, and will not be accommodated and metabolized entirely in the body resulting in an increase in uric acid in the blood which is also called hyperuricemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red ginger compress on gout pain in the elderly at Lavalate Hospital. In this study used a pre-experimental research design because this design tested only one group or class given pre and post test. With a total of 30 respondents. The results of the study were obtained. Most elderly people with gout arthritis at Lavalate Hospital experienced moderate pain before the intervention of giving red ginger compresses. Most of the elderly with gout arthritis at Lavalate Hospital experienced mild pain after being given an intervention to apply red ginger compresses. There is an effect of red ginger compresses on gout pain in Lavalette Hospital. From the test results using the Paired Samples Test, a value of p < 0.05 is p = 0.000 which means there is an effect of decreasing pain intensity after giving red ginger compresses to Gout patients. It is expected that respondents can apply this procedure if the pain appears to reduce pain and provide a more comfortable effect. In addition, respondents are expected to be able to do health checks, especially checking uric acid levels in health services so that they can monitor their health regularly, and take medication as recommended by a doctor Keywords: Pain, Gout, Elderly
