Abstract

Abstract - Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires good management, with adherence to treatment being very important to prevent complications. The role of nurses as educators helps patients improve their knowledge about treatment, thus supporting medication adherence. This study aims to determine the relationship between the role of nurses as educators and medication adherence in hypertensive patients at the UPTD Watukenongo Health Center, Mojokerto Regency. The research design used was correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 34 respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with data collection using the Nurse Role as Educator questionnaire and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) to measure medication adherence, which were then analyzed using the Spearman test. The results showed that most respondents felt that the role of nurses as an educator was quite good (82.35%), and the highest medication adherence was moderate (55.88%). The Spearman test showed a correlation value of ρ = 0.038 (ρ > 0.05) and a coefficient of r = -0.358, indicating a weak positive relationship. In conclusion, the better the role of nurses as educators, the more patient compliance in taking medication, although this relationship is not strong. Keywords: role of nurses, education, compliance, taking medication, hypertension.
