Abstract

Abstract – Sectio caesarea is a surgical procedure by making an incision in the abdomen and uterine wall to remove the fetus. Not a few patients who will undergo a cesarean section surgery will experience anxiety. Pre-SC anxiety is an anticipatory response to an experience that can be considered a threat to themselves by the patient. Anxiety in pre-SC patients can be influenced by several factors including family support and how patients apply coping strategies. The general objective of this study was to determine the relationship between coping strategies and family support with the level of anxiety in pre-op cesarean section patients at Arafah Anwar Medika Hospital, Sidoarjo. This study used a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 35 samples. The instruments used were the brief cope questionnaire, family support questionnaire and APAIS questionnaire. This study used the Spearman rho test. The results of the study showed that most respondents had adaptive coping strategies, namely 20 respondents (57.1%), almost half of the respondents had moderate family support, namely 15 respondents (42.9%) and almost half of the respondents experienced moderate anxiety, namely 13 respondents (37.1%).Based on the results of the Spearman rho test on the variables of coping strategies and anxiety levels, a sig value of 0.000 <0.05 and a correlation coefficient value of -0.718 were obtained, while on the variables of family support and anxiety levels, a sig value of 0.000 <0.05 and a correlation coefficient value of -0.825 were obtained, which means that there is a relationship between coping strategies and family support with the level of anxiety of pre-op sectio caesarea patients at Arafah Anwar Medika Hospital, Sidoarjo. Patients who have adaptive coping strategies and high family support tend to have mild anxiety or even no anxiety, and vice versa.
